1. Petition to shut down the fucked up list titled “Problems with being a male” that keeps going around

  2. Problems with being a male

    1. Having emotions is seen as weakness
    2. Admitting weakness is seen as an even greater weakness
    3. Being called a sexual deviant or a pervert because you were expressing your sexuality
    4. A girl beating you in any physical competition makes you inferior
    5. Being superficial makes you a pig but a woman being superficial is fine
    6. Makeup isn't even an option
    7. Not living up to the insanely unrealistic ideal of manhood automatically makes you gay
    8. Being gay is seen as weak
    9. You can't control the size of your "manhood"
    10. You can't report sexual assaults because being a male victim is worse than being the rapist
    11. No male specific support groups or movements
    12. Unequal parental rights
    13. Extreme feminists treating you less than human
    14. Women can blame all men or say they are all the same but if a man blames women they're sexist pigs
    15. People dismissing your problems automatically because the universe is obviously rigged in your favour in every scenario imaginable
    16. No one will read this past the title
    17. WILL PEOPLE PLEASE STOP CIRCULATING THIS MRA SEXIST BULLSHIT OF A POST. "NO MALE SPECIFIC SUPPORT GROUPS OR MOVEMENTS?!" "WOMEN CAN BLAME ALL MEN OR SAY THEY ARE ALL THE SAME BUT IF A MAN BLAMES WOMEN THEY'RE SEXIST PIGS?!" DO THE PEOPLE WHO CIRCULATE THIS EVEN KNOW HOW SEXISM WORKS?! SOCIETY AS A WHOLE IS A MALE SUPPORT GROUP. MEN CANNOT BE OPPRESSED BY SEXISM. IF WOMEN CALL MEN OUT ON THEIR SHIT, IT IS NOT SEXISM. IT'S CHECKING MEN ON THEIR MALE PRIVILEGE. PLZ LEARN A THING OR TWO BEFORE CRYING ABOUT HOW MEN ARE JUST AS VICTIMIZED BY SEXISM AS WOMEN ARE BECAUSE ALL THIS POST SAYS IS HOW MEN'S RIGHTS ARE OF HIGHER PRIORITY THAN WOMEN'S. NO ONE SHOULD READ PAST THIS TITLE BECAUSE THE POST IS MOSTLY MRA BULLSHIT. I HIGHLY DOUBT THE PERSON WHO MADE THIS LIST OR MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN THIS GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WOMEN'S RIGHTS. JUST STOP.

Boys have struggles too, why does everyone forget that?

Maybe they don’t forget about us. Maybe they just don’t care about us because they feel like we’re not important since we been stereotyped as heartless. But we’re not. Not all guys are going around sleeping with every girl they see or breaking hearts. Some of us had our heart’s broken and been traumatized. It makes us feel worthless because we are outcasts in an already outcasted community. But no one cares. No one cares about us and it hurts.

No one will ever care, because we’re expected to be indestructible, but we aren’t. A lot of us hurt. But we keep it inside because society told us it was wrong for boys to open up and talk about things.

    I love this

Yes, those issues are multi-gender issues that affect more than just women, but I’m curious about how many people here are more concerned about men’s rights than about advocating for gender equity. Do y’all realize how much privilege men are already afforded simply for BEING men?? Do y’all realize that usually whenever men are stereotyped, it’s in ways that attempt to solidify one’s masculinity/competency, and when women are stereotyped it is typically to demean or dehumanize them, to equate femininity to weakness and subordination? The point I’m trying to make here is that men already benefit from make privilege in a patriarchal society that objectifies women, resulting in violence and sometimes even worse outcomes. So before you go complaining about “men’s rights,” maybe you should consider just how the patriarchy functions and reconsider your views on just how unfairly women are treated within the patriarchy. Yes, it’s important to remember that issues like depression, suicide, self harm, etc. don’t affect just women, but that does NOT mean that those issues affect men the same way they affect women.

    okcupidvillains:

    lesbianese:

    • When a person of color says that they hate white people, they hate white people as an institution (aka white supremacy/hegemony)
    • When a woman says that they hate men, they hate men as an institution (aka male dominance/patriarchy)
    • When a queer person says that they hate straight people, they hate straight people as an institution  (aka heteronormativity)
    • When a trans* person says that they hate cisgender people, they hate cisgender people as an institution (aka gender essentialism/rigid gender roles)
SO WHEN ANY OF THESE PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY HATE ANY OF THESE GROUPS, DON’T RESPOND WITH “NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE/MEN/STRAIGHT/CIS PEOPLE ARE LIKE THAT”. WE KNOW THAT. IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU PERSONALLY. IT’S ABOUT INSTITUTIONS AND THE WAYS IN WHICH THEY, AS INSTITUTIONS, OPPRESS US. SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  9. TW: sexism, racism

You might be a sexist, racist asshole if you go on Facebook calling women “hoes” and “ratchet” for the way they dress during cold weather. You might also just be a whining shitbag for getting defensive when getting called out on your shit by saying you’re having a fantastic day and won’t let it be ruined by someone who calls you out on your bullshit. It’s so easy to run away whining and moaning about having your day ruined, which apparently includes policing and shaming women for what they choose to wear, when someone calls you out on your shit and cast blame on the one calling you out, but what really takes effort is to step back and reconsider what you’re saying by seeing it from other people’s perspectives to realize why and how it’s problematic.

Also, can anyone provide better information about why the term “ratchet” can be problematic? I’ve heard a few accounts about it, but may y’all could chime in?

Open question to the Internet: Why is it apparently mysogynistic of men to get excited about the Olympics women’s beach volleyball because there’s pretty ladies jumping about in tight sport bikinis, when half of the female Tumblr population has done little else this week but perve over the Olympic male swimmers in their tiny swimming trunks?

Because female athletes aren’t considered to be serious competitors. Because the women’s football tickets are being given away, and the men’s football tickets cost thousands upon thousands of pounds. Because female athletes struggle for sponsorship unless they’re stereotypically aesthetically attractive enough to get modelling deals whereas Wayne Rooney’s neanderthal face gets paid millions. Because male athletes are valued because of their prowess, their skill, their charm, and female athletes are valued for their bodies. Because Michael Phelps breaks records and is a national hero, and Ye Shiwen breaks records and is accused of doping. Because the male gaze is a product of hundreds of years of oppression, of complex gender dynamics, of sexualisation and sexual exploitation, and there’s no female equivalent. Because the female exposure of the body is a sign of vulnerability, of sex, of reproduction, of physical use and nothing more, whereas male exposure is a sign of confidence, of power, of physical strength. Because women are naked on the covers of magazines to pleasure men and men are naked on the cover of magazines to inspire other men. In other words, the world is backwards, and twisted, and complicated, and your observation is perversely oversimplified.

  12. Rape is on the increase, reported and unreported, and rape is not aggressive sexuality, it is sexualized aggression. As Kalamu ya Salaam, a Black male writer, points out, as long as male domination exists, rape will exist. Only women revolting and men made conscious of their responsibility to fight sexism can collectively stop rape.
